Overhead is made by a small team, and a real person reads every message. Whether something's broken, a charge looks wrong, or you just have a question, here's how to reach us and answers to the things people ask most.
Email us any time. We usually reply within one business day. To help us help you, include your macOS version, and — if it's a bug — what you expected versus what happened. Settings → General → Export diagnostics creates a file you can attach.
Common questions
Overhead shows aircraft near you, so a quiet moment overhead means an empty bar — that's normal, especially away from flight paths or late at night. If it stays empty for a long time, open the popover: it will tell you whether it's simply quiet or whether it's having trouble reaching the data. Make sure you granted Location (or set a home address in Settings) and that you have a network connection.
Overhead Sky is a Mac app. It lives in the Mac menu bar and needs macOS 14 or later, which is why the App Store politely refuses to install it on a phone or tablet. Open overheadsky.com on your Mac and you'll be watching your own sky about a minute later.
Overhead asks for your location once during setup. You can change it any time in Settings → General — grant Location Services, or type a home address instead. Your precise location never leaves your Mac; only a coarse, neighborhood-sized coordinate is used to find nearby aircraft.
You can buy Overhead once to own it forever, or subscribe monthly (with a 3-day free trial). Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple through the Mac App Store. To view, change, or cancel a subscription, open the App Store app, click your name, choose Account Settings, then Subscriptions — or manage it in System Settings → your Apple Account → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access through the period you've paid for.
If you run an ADS-B receiver that feeds a community network, Overhead offers a reduced rate as a thank-you. It's entirely optional and unlocked as a one-time purchase; if you don't run a receiver, you'll simply see the normal options.
As little as possible. There's no account, no tracking, and your exact location never leaves your Mac. The full details are on our privacy page.
Quit Overhead from its menu (or Settings → Quit), then drag it from your Applications folder to the Trash. If you turned on “Open at login,” turn it off first in Settings so no login item is left behind.
